“A walk through Shinjuku” 58 x 77 cm
Acrylic and spray paint on stretched canvas
Set in the heart of Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, A Walk Through Shinjuku captures a fleeting moment of solitude in a place known for its energy and chaos. Inspired by my own late-night city walks to help with insomnia, I aimed to create a dynamic scene alive with atmosphere yet one which is still quietly introspective. The lone figure walking beneath glowing signage suggests both movement and pause – a moment of internal reckoning amid the sensory overload of the city. I layered textures using spray paint, palette knives, and brushes and was drawn to the neon lights, imposing infrastructure and night-time ambience that is so synonymous with this Tokyo ward.
